Wednesday, 17 June 2026
Yesterday (16), the Governor of Banco de Moçambique (BM), Rogério Zandamela, inaugurated the temporary fine arts exhibition “Traces of a Life: Tribute to José Pádua” at the Banco de Moçambique Museum.
Rogério Zandamela underscored that the exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to explore the different stages of José Pádua's artistic journey and demonstrates how, through his talent, the artist invites us to view everyday through a more sensitive lens.
“Today, we pay special tribute to the artist José Pádua, whose work is being exhibited posthumously. These artworks have been brought together to celebrate his artistic legacy and preserve his place in the history of the visual arts in our country. Every work preserved in a collection tells a story, safeguards a memory, and provides valuable insight into our society's cultural heritage,” said Zandamela.
Furthermore, the exhibition curator and BM staff member, Felisberto Tlhemo, delivered a detailed presentation and invited attendees to immerse themselves in the artist's 16 drawings and paintings, produced between the 1960s and the 1990s.
"Traces of a Life" is not only a tribute to the artist, but also an invitation to the public to discover and appreciate fragments of a shared history that continue to resonate in the present and serve as a legacy for future generations, reminding us of the hard work, perseverance, and resilience of the Mozambican people.
Over its three years of existence, the Banco de Moçambique Museum has promoted initiatives aimed at showcasing art and culture and has hosted four temporary fine arts exhibitions during this period, creating opportunities for engagement between artists, artworks, and the public.
Among those in attendance were the Secretary of State for Arts and Culture, Matilde Muocha, members of the BM Board of Directors, the President of the Mozambican Banking Association, Esselina Macome, representatives of museums and galleries from the city of Maputo, as well as BM advisers, managers, and staff members.
