The Banco de Moçambique Museum was inaugurated on May 17, 2023, by the Governor of the Banco de Moçambique, Rogério Lucas Zandamela. The Museum is located on the first floor of the parking building (silo-auto) at the headquarters of the Banco de Moçambique, and spans about 2000 square meters, with spaces architecturally designed for this purpose.

To promote, knowledge, appreciation, and preservation of institutional memory.

Vision

To be an institution of reference and excellence that contributes to knowledge of the history of the central bank, the financial system, and the national currency.

Objectives

Study, documentation, conservation and dissemination of the historical and artistic collection, and the preservation of institutional memory.

Exhibitions

The Museum is made up of thematic areas that portray the history of Banco de Moçambique, in particular, and the country, in general, and an art gallery whose artistic collection dates back to the 1960s.

Museum Cafeteria

The museum cafeteria is a welcoming space housed in the silo-auto building of the Banco de Moçambique with a wonderful view of the Metical Monument.

The perfect place for a coffee break after visiting the museum.

Open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.

Guided tours

Appointments can be made through the landline 21 35 46 00 / 258 21 35 47 00, in person at the Museum reception, or by email: info@museubancomoc.mz.

When booking guided tours, the following information must be provided:

  • Type of visit (e.g., study/official/)
  • Date and time
  • Number of participants
  • Subject area, teaching level and/or overall objectives of the visit
  • Remarks (such as the existence of users with special needs in the group)
  • Contact details of the institution and the person in charge of the group (cell phone and e-mail address)
  • Guided tour groups should not exceed 30 visitors.

 

Useful information

  • Visitors can enter the museum up to 30 minutes before closing time.
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Opening hours

The Museum is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The Museum is closed on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays, and public holidays.
