METICAL SQUARE INAUGURATED IN MUEDA VILLAGE

Today, February 9, the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and the President of the Swiss Confederation, Alain Berset, inaugurated the Metical Square in the Mueda Village, Cabo Delgado province.

During his speech, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi noted that the choice of the date of inauguration is in honor of the Swiss President, as it is the first time that a president of that country visits Mozambique following independence.

Moving forward, Filipe Nyusi commended the Banco de Moçambique for promoting the symbol of Mozambican sovereignty in this district and called on the citizens to appreciate and preserve the Square, as well as the domestic currency - the Metical.

For his part, the Governor of the Banco de Moçambique, Rogério Zandamela, mentioned that the ceremony took place at a venue of historic importance for Mozambique, for the location bore witness to the Mueda Massacre occurred four decades ago, taking the lives of many Mozambicans, who only wanted to see their rights respected in their homeland.

Lastly, the Chairman of the Municipal Council of Mueda Village, Manuel Pita Alavalave, expressed his appreciation for the Banco de Moçambique having provided an area devoted to culture, sports and recreation to the Mueda students and citizens, and renewed his full commitment of preserving the infrastructure.
