FINANCIAL INCLUSION INDICATORS – Q1 2026

The financial inclusion indicators for Q1 2026 provide a detailed analysis of access to and availability of financial services in Mozambique from geographical and demographic perspectives, disaggregated by gender and area of residence (urban and rural).

The report also provides information on the distribution of financial service access points across the country's 154 districts.

Regarding availability indicators, the number of mobile money agents increased by 4.4%, from 446,604 to 467,622, further expanding the coverage of the financial services network. Conversely, the number of ATMs and POS terminals declined by 5.6% and 2.5%, respectively, reflecting, among other factors, the rationalisation of the terminal network and optimisation of its distribution.

Regarding access indicators, the number of bank accounts increased by 2.6%, from 6.53 million to 6.70 million. Meanwhile, the number of mobile money subscribers declined by 0.7% to 25.25 million, a development that may be associated, among other factors, with the deactivation of inactive accounts by payment service providers.
