On the occasion, Licungo University Rector, Boaventura José Aleixo, thanked the Banco de Moçambique for the initiative, describing it as a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding of the factors that guide policies affecting the lives of Mozambicans. He also encouraged the academic community in attendance to translate the knowledge acquired into reflections and research that can contribute practical proposals to address the challenges facing the country.
Moreover, Jaime Manjate, Director of the Communication Office, noted that the initiative forms part of the Bank’s efforts to bring monetary policy closer to the public, thereby strengthening economic and financial literacy. He further stated that CEPI serves as an important source of information to support research, learning, and a better understanding of the decisions taken by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
The presentation on monetary policy in Mozambique, as well as the economic outlook and inflation forecasts report, was delivered by Pinho Ribeiro, Director of the Economic Research Department. During his presentation, he highlighted the country’s main monetary policy instrument and its transmission channels to the economy. He also explained the factors underpinning the MPC’s most recent decision, underscoring the worsening of certain risks and uncertainties, particularly fiscal risks and geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East.
Furthermore, Élio Jonasse, Director of the Quelimane Branch, thanked Licungo University for its support in organizing the event and reiterated the Bank’s commitment and readiness to promote economic and financial literacy among different segments of society.
The session was marked by strong participation from the Licungo University academic community, the high level of interest shown by participants, and the quality of engagement between students and lecturers, all of which contributed to a more in-depth understanding of the topics discussed.
