GOVERNOR ZANDAMELA ANNOUNCES CIRCULATION OF NEW SERIES OF METICAL BANKNOTES AND COINS

This Friday afternoon on the 18th floor of the parking building of the headquarters of the Banco de Moçambique (BM), the BM Governor met with commercial banks to announce the circulation of the 2024 series of the new series of Metical banknotes and coins as of June 16 this year.
In his speech, Rogério Zandamela said that the review aims to adapt Metical banknotes and coins to new trends in design, security and other elements, against the special backdrop of the onset of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the BM and 45th anniversary of the Metical.
The theme of the new Metical banknotes and coins upholds the tradition of exalting and preserving national cultural, historical and faunal values, as well as their denominations and substrates.
This new series also follows the composition of six denominations of banknotes, as well as their substrates, that is, the denominations of 1000; 500 and 200 meticais on paper substrate and the denominations of 100; 50 and 20 meticais on polymer substrate.
Regarding coins, the current nine denominations were reduced to seven, keeping the denominations of 10; 5; 2 and 1 meticais, as well as 50; 10 and 1 cents, while withdrawing the denominations of 20 and 5 cents.
In attendance at the event were BM Board Members, Advisers and Directors, as well as representatives of commercial banks.
