FINANCIAL INCLUSION INDICATORS - Q2 2025
Wednesday, 27 August 2025

The financial inclusion indicators for the second quarter of 2025, available here, render a detailed analysis of access to financial services in Mozambique, considering geographic, demographic, and usage aspects, disaggregated by gender and by urban and rural areas. The report also presents data on the distribution of access points across the country’s 154 districts.
In the reporting period, the total number of access points recorded a positive change of 7.8%, driven by an 8.8 % increase in mobile money agents and a 3.4% rise in microcredit operators.
Key highlights include:
-
The continued upward trend in the number of mobile money accounts per 100 adults, which stood at 118.7% compared with 109.8% in the first quarter of 2025. This indicates that some account holders have more than one account. The increase reflects greater ease of access and use, enhanced interoperability between mobile money institutions and banks, as well as stronger promotion of related products and services.
-
An increase in deposits as a percentage of GDP by 1.6 percentage points to 51.9%, in a context where credit as a percentage of GDP remained stable at 19.3 percent.
It should also be noted that during the period, a retrospective revision of data on credit and financial savings was carried out, based on the Nominal GDP data for 2024 published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
