The Banco de Moçambique (BM) carried out, from 16 to 22 March, a series of activities nationwide to mark the 14th edition of the Global Money Week (GMW).
The height of the “Smart Money Talks” themed GMW took place on 20 March in Lago District, Niassa Province, specifically at Escola Secundária de Seli, located in the municipal town of Metangula, which hosted the central ceremony.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Provincial Directorate of Education and brought together around 120 students and 12 teachers from the Seli, Messumba, and Mechumua secondary schools in that district.
During the celebrations, a range of activities aligned with the theme were conducted, including financial education lectures, essay-writing, drawing and painting competitions, theatre performances, and quizzes. Winning teams were awarded bicycles, as well as educational and sports materials.
In addition, participating schools received textbooks, various teaching materials, and certificates of participation.
In his opening remarks, the Director of the Lichinga Branch, Jorge Namurás, noted that GMW is a global awareness campaign on financial education aimed primarily at improving the financial literacy of children and young people. He reaffirmed the Banco de Moçambique’s commitment to supporting their financial learning and development.
