This afternoon (7), the Banco de Moçambique hosted a talk titled “First-Hand Accounts” at its headquarters, delivered by former Governor Ernesto Gove. The session is part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the central bank and the 45th anniversary of the Metical.
In his opening remarks, the current Governor, Rogério Zandamela, underscored the importance of the “First-Hand Accounts” initiative as a platform for sharing insights and passing on institutional knowledge from individuals who have played a significant role in the Bank’s growth.
Ernesto Gove began by addressing the Bank’s modernization process during his tenure, particularly the transformation of its technological infrastructure.
He went on to challenge the Bank’s younger professionals to revisit the past with humility, encouraging them to better understand the challenges faced by previous generations and to recognize that today’s achievements are the result of collective effort and sacrifice.
In the second part of his presentation, the former Governor spoke about the role of monetary and exchange rate policies in Mozambique, amid limited economic diversification and vulnerability to both internal and external shocks. Gove emphasized the need for structural reforms to enhance the effectiveness of conventional economic policy tools.
Ernesto Gove joined the Banco de Moçambique on March 9, 1976, beginning his career in the Documentation and Information Center.
The event was attended by former Governors Eneas Comiche and Adriano Maleiane, former Deputy Governor Victor Gomes, as well as former and current members of the Board of Directors, managers and staff members.
